Hitchhiker’s Guide Entry
“Wireless” refers to a collection of communications technologies, all involving data exchange via EM wave propagation. As opposed to ansible technology, wireless is capable of much higher baud but much lower range, since it is subject to distance-dependent latency.
Wireless communication happens at virtually every wavelength, though the Interstellar Communications Committee has designated various bands of the spectra for various civilian and military purposes. Wireless communications are generally classified as “longwave,” “shortwave,” “microwave” and “picowave” based on the wavelengths in use.
This is radio, and the ICC functions much like the FCC.
